اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ
“Allah is the Protective Friend of those who believe: He brings them out of darkness into light…” 2:257
It is not just external protection that Al Waliyy gives but also the internal strength and tranquility that enables us to withstand every hardship.
The root word of Al-Waliyy means to be very close without any barrier. It connotes closeness, guardianship and one who supports.
“I whisper to You, O You who is present in every place so that You may hear my call.
My sins are excessive and my shame little…
I call for help from desires which have overpowered me…
I come to You alone…… my actions around my neck, when all of creation will withdraw from me….
Then if You do not have mercy on me, who will?
Who will give me solace from the loneliness of my grave?
Who will help me speak when I am alone with my deeds?….”
