إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَفِيظٌ
Indeed my Master is The Preserver .’ 11:57
Al Hafeezh comes from the root word – ‘hafazha’ from which the word ‘hifzh’ – memorisation comes.
……وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا……
“…and He does not get tired by their preservation….. “ 2:255
The entire universe and everything and everyone in it is preserved by Allah; He doesn’t forget even the smallest thing and He doesn’t get tired. The laws of the universe like the law of gravity only work because Al Hafeezh preserves them – if He were to sleep or forget them, there would be utter chaos.
A book is called hafeezh because its contents safeguard records of actions and statements from being lost.
Hifzh (memorisation) is a form of preservation and remembrance. In Arabic, remembrance is called Zhikr.
Repeating (doing Zhikr) of the names of Allah (Asmaul Husnaa) enables preservation of eiman, gratitude and trust in Divinity.
Recite YAA HAFEEZH frequently to be protected from calamities and hostility.
