ASMAAUL HUSNA 02

Whoever establishes the 99 names of Allah will enter Janna

To establish is to:

  1. Memorise (internalise)
  2. Call upon Him by these names (7:180)
  3. Manifest them

We have looked at the 3 ‘R’s’ (RAHMAAN, RAHEEM & RAUF ) 1,2 & 83

Today we will look at Prophet’s favourite names (AL HAYY & AL QAYYUM) 62& 63

AL HAYYUL QAYYUM

“Whenever a matter would distress him, the Prophet (pbuh) would say – Yaa Hayyu ya Qayyum, bi-rahmatika astaghith

“O Living, O Self Existing ! In Your Mercy do I seek relief “

These two attributes are mentioned in Aayatul Kursi known as the chief of Verses of the Qur’an

‎ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلۡحَيُّ ٱلۡقَيُّومُۚ

“Allah – there is no God except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence…… (2:255)

62. AL HAYY – THE ETERNAL (THE EVER LIVING) (THE MAINTAINER)

The word Hayy comes from hayaat which means life. He is the bestower of life as experienced in time. He is not subject to time, decay or death. Al-Hayy is beyond all matters of change and is the absolute source of living. He is never off line

63. AL QAYYUM – THE SELF EXISTING  (FREE FROM DEPENDANCE ON ANYTHING OR ANYONE)

From the root qaamaa: to stand fast, or firm.

He is the one who holds upright or causes to stand up.

Al-Qayyum is self-supporting and self-sustaining, firm in His Will, and rules over and cares for His dominion and creation by Himself. He has no need nor desires whilst creation always has needs and desires.
