“And We did not send any messenger but that he should be
obeyed by Allah's permission.” Qur'an 4:64
Ma’sumeen (sing. Ma’sum) comes from the word Isma meaning one who abstains from sin, one who is infallible. The Qur’an in Suratun Nisa 4:64 says “And We did not send any messenger but that he should be obeyed by Allah's permission.” One who has to be obeyed has to be one who does not commit mistakes.
In Suratul Ahzab 33:33 it was revealed: “Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying.” On this revelation the Prophet (pbuh) immediatley said: “This aya refers to me and my Ahlulbayt who are clear from sins.” In this sector we will be looking at the 14 Masumeen which consists of the Prophet, Sayydia Fatima (pbuh) and the 12 Aimma.
